Super Junk vs. Superfoods: Where Do You Get Your Nutrients?

Get Your Nutrients From This Natural Solution

Do you remember being a teenager and feeling on top of the world? Unfortunately, as we age our body does this thing where it likes to have sudden breakdowns, turn on random warning lights, and in some cases decide that we can no longer bend over to pick up a piece of paper. All of these are just a few of the downsides of aging. For me, one of the hardest things is swallowing all of the pills and sometimes I think I’d just rather eat chalk instead!

As much as I’d love to rant about the negative aspects of taking so many pills, they do provide a lot for us. The biggest thing they do is supplement our diet. It’s no secret that adults get busy, bodies get older, and at some point the diet and exercise routine we established in our 20s just fell through the window. The only thing left to catch us was a bulk jar of multivitamins from Costco.

This Drink Outperforms Supplement Pills – Find Out Why

Unfortunately for many adults, pill supplements have become a primary source for consuming the necessary vitamins and minerals we need just to survive. In fact, the CDC found that fewer than 1 in 10 adults and teenagers were eating enough fruits and vegetables in their diet. Although they are convenient, pills can introduce a lot of chaos. To start, pill supplements can contain way more nutrients than we need on any given day or even week. This might seem great, but there are a variety of negative effects associated with different vitamins. For instance, too much vitamin A can cause headaches or even liver damage! To make a long story short, just because we theoretically could get all of the nutrients we need from pills, it doesn’t mean we should. It actually could be more detrimental than beneficial for our health, in terms of long term sustainability.

What is a long term sustainable option for getting the nutrients we need? Well, we’ll need to consume more whole fruits and vegetables, specifically superfoods. These nutrient-dense foods are low in sugar, sodium, starches, and bad fats. They also provide more vitamins and minerals for less calories compared to their low nutrient density counterparts like fast food meals, white bread…etc. A common misconception is that superfoods are these obscure plants or proteins found in some inconceivable land far away. The truth is that there are a variety of superfoods waiting for you at the supermarket. So let’s go over a few of them and how you can incorporate them into your diet.

Fruits like strawberries, grapes, and blueberries are all superfruits that contain high amounts of antioxidants and fiber. Other fruits like apples, blood oranges, and peaches are common household snack items that pack huge amounts of nutritional punch. A few ways to incorporate more fruits into your diet is by replacing one low-density snack with apple slices, adding fresh strawberries to your yogurt, or by peeling and eating an orange while enjoying your morning tea. Moving on to super veggies, foods like carrots, broccoli, and spinach are all nutrient-rich foods that are super easy to integrate into your diet. Some examples include, making lunch wraps with a few extra carrots and spinach leaves inside or at home stir-fry night using broccoli, carrots, and cabbage. If you have to find creative ways to trick your kids into eating such things, butternut squash in mac and cheese is an excellent way for them to get the incredible antioxidants and vitamins this super veggies has to offer without giving up any of that classic cheesy taste they love. Now for the best part, sprouts! Foods including lentils, quinoa, and sunflower seeds are all incredible healthy uber nourishing. To add more of these into your diet, simply sub white rice for quinoa, add sunflower seeds to your potato salad or morning yogurt, or add lentils to any soup whether it be homemade or canned.

The final option, and probably the easiest way to incorporate 31 different superfoods into your diet immediately, is through my favorite superfood powder Grown American Superfood. This supplement isn’t overpowering in cost, contains a safe amount of the nutrients for proper supplementing, and tastes great too. The brand also has a bunch of recipe videos for adding it into tasty treats, so that you can further trick your kids into eating something good for them! They currently offer a risk free trial that includes 2 large bags and 1 small bag of superfood powder, plus 2-week access to their Super Tips & Recipe Guide where you can learn how to incorporate even more superfoods into your diet. Being able to double my daily servings of fruits and vegetables in an organic and natural way with little to no effort at all, is the best thing that ever happened for me and my loved ones.
